Live is the eleventh album released by The Manhattan Transfer. It was recorded live at the Nakano Sun Plaza Hall in Japan on 20 & 21 February 1986. It was released in 1987. This was the group's second live album, and the first live album with Cheryl Bentyne in the group. Four Brothers" (Jimmy Giuffre, Jon Hendricks) (4:04). Rambo" (Count Basie, J. J. Johnson, Jon Hendricks) (3:44). (You Should) Meet Benny Bailey" (Quincy Jones, Jon Hendricks) (3:12). Airegin" (Sonny Rollins, Jon Hendricks) (4:21).

The Manhattan Transfer Live was recorded by The Manhattan Transfer live at Manchester on April 23, 1978; Bristol on April 28, 1978; and the Hammersmith Odeon Theatre, London, on May 2, 1978. The album was produced by Tim Hauser and Janis Siegel. This was the final album made with Laurel Massé. For many years this album had the distinction of being the only Manhattan Transfer album not to be released on CD in the . A short-lived Japanese CD was released on October 10, 1987

Perhaps feeling that they should have a real up-to-date live album in their satchel after the half-cocked Bop Doo-Wopp - and needing some product anyway after the triumphant Vocalese project - the Manhattan Transfer went back to Tokyo's Nakano Sun Plaza Hall and did another live session. But, as in Bop Doo-Wopp, though these performances take up a whole CD this time, you're not hearing the entire project; the rest of the tunes, all older material, can be seen on the video.

This self-titled album is the first of four albums recorded by the second incarnation of The Manhattan Transfer: Tim Hauser, Janis Siegel, Alan Paul and Laurel Massé. The album was released on April 2, 1975 and debuted on Billboard’s Top Pop Album charts on May 3, 1975 and eventually went to based partially on the strength of the single Operator which went to on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. When news got out the group was going to record an album, many critics wondered if a group that was so dynamic and visual in live club performances could translate that energy onto an album.

The group’s name comes from John Dos Passos’ 1925 novel Manhattan Transfer and reflects their New York origins. The first group, established in New York City in 1969, disbanded after producing a single album, Jukin’ (1971). This article focuses on the second line-up which was set up in 1972 and is still together.
