Le Bataclan '72 is a sixteen-track live album by Lou Reed, John Cale and Nico. It was recorded from the soundboard and heavily bootlegged over the years, before it gained an official release in 2004. The album was recorded during a live show at the Bataclan club in Paris, on January 29, 1972, and was originally broadcast on French TV. The concert marked the first time since the breakup of The Velvet Underground that Reed, Cale and Nico were on stage together.

Vocals – John Cale, Lou Reed, Nico (3). Notes. Recorded live at Le Bataclan, 50 Boulevard Voltaire, 75011 Paris, 29 January 1972.

Reed's rhythmic chiming guitar incongruously fits beside Cale as he whittles away an austere viola counterpoint. Back briefly to Reed's eponymously titled debut for a very Dylanesque delivery of "Wild Child. The reconnection between the duo begins to jel significantly, if not audibly throughout an intense "Heroin," immediately recalling what makes the Cale/Reed combo so appealing. One rarity is Cale's "Empty Bottles," which he contributed to Jennifer Warnes' Jennifer (1972) album. Nico finally takes the spotlight for a healthy sampling of her work, couching a trio of post-VU efforts around three of her most memorable sides during her brief time in the band. They saunter into an intimate and warmly received mini-set featuring "Femme Fatale," "No One Is There," and "Frozen Warnings" of off Marble Index (1969), as well as "Janitor of Lunacy" from Desertshore (1970).

Nico takes us out out and out to realms that no one else has ever been able to take us. Such ethereal mesmerizing and haunting sounds. Nico was 100% unique and one of a kind. She and Cale were a perfect pairing and about as exotic as it comes. an amusing little rock n roller. Well, that is a little harsh.

one of the most beautiful live in the history of music Nico on the side, Lou & John dos à dos, (Yves Adrien période long hair aux commentaires)Le Bataclan pour arène jamais plus rien d'aussi beau dans le 11ème arrondissement de Paris seulement, du sang et des larmesen lieu et place de la beauté du rêve du droit d'échouer

Specifically, Tracks 1 to 14 need to have their speed (both pitch and tempo) increased by 7.2%. Verified by comparing waveforms to the audio from the video of the performance. Tracks 15 and 16 need to be increased by approximately 2.9%. You can rip it and use Audacity to fix it.

I agree with the previous comment, this is a poor quality release. Makes me wondering if Alchemy Entertainment's releases are official stuff... It looks suspicious to me...

Alchemy Entertainment should be ashamed of this release. This was the #1 show that VU fans wanted to be released officially and when it finally was, this is what we got: a recording that is anywhere from 10% to 15% too slow. Someone in the mastering booth must've fallen asleep and allowed their elbow to hit the pitch control dial because the entire recording sounds like a cassette being eaten by a tape deck. Make no mistake about it... this recording is untenable. There are bootlegs of the show available that were taken from the soundboard and sound pristine (this one comes to mind):http://www.discogs.com/Lou-Reed-John-Cale-Nico-Bataclan/release/3439796Why Alchemy couldn't release an official product at least as good as readily available bootlegs is beyond me. Obviously someone was not paying attention when this was release which is a shame because the bootleg versions are becoming harder and harder to find and I think most people would prefer an official release to a bootleg pressing. Yes, if you have pitch control software, you can rip the disc and correct the audio by increasing the pitch, but why should you have to?The bottom line is this: the performance presented on this release is truly unlistenable. I know that the fidelity of live shows can vary, but this is truly not worth owning -- even for a VU completist. Do yourself a favor and search out the far superior bootleg version.
