Soundtrack Recordings from the Film Jimi Hendrix is the soundtrack to the 1973 documentary film, Jimi Hendrix. The double album was released by Reprise Records in July 1973. It contains the full-length live performances from the film and some clips from interviews (though not necessarily from the film). The album peaked at number 89 on the Billboard album chart, which generated concern at Reprise Records that repackaging old material would no longer satisfy the fans of Jimi Hendrix

The estate of Jimi Hendrix authorized the 1973 film to be re-released on video and DVD in 1999. The album peaked at No. 89 on the Billboard album chart, which generated concern at Reprise Records that repackaging old material would no longer satisfy the fans of Jimi Hendrix.

Unlike the soundtrack to the movie Janis Joplin, which - most unfortunately - contained studio versions of songs performed in the film but not the actual live takes from the motion picture; this 1973 double-LP from Reprise/Warner Brothers has the actual music from the celluloid. The liner notes to Sound Track Recordings From the Film Jimi Hendrix note that the film contains "all the performances included in this album," so there are none of the substitutions that Joplin fans would encounter two years hence

James Isaacs's Most Recent Stories. Soundtrack Recordings from the Film ‘Jimi Hendrix’. The album begins in June, 1967, at the Monterey Pop Festival when Hendrix, then an unknown expatriate, created his own myth by the Who with his celebrated sacrifice of the white Fender on the delightfully excessive, erotically campy Wild Thing. But showmanship, outlandish garb and the decidedly cock-a-hoop stance of a psychedelicized Bo Diddley notwithstanding, Monterey firmly established Hendrix’s musical credentials as well. Jimi Hendrix’ enormous contribution to the electric guitar’s vocabulary make it all the more pitiful that his Isle of Wight film soundtrack swan song should be released. Nevertheless, even these deplorable stabs are pertinent to those of us who revere the man’s genius.

Consumer Guide Album. Jimi Hendrix: Sound Track Recordings from the Film "Jimi Hendrix" "Johnny B. Goode" has about two-thirds the volume and brightness of the original, and the stuff from Band of Gypsys has lost clarity. None of the previously unreleased music is exceptional, although all of it is interesting, especially an early twelve-string blues. The interviews aren't bad, and at least they're at the end of each side. I wouldn't, and didn't, throw away a free copy-just filed it where the sun don't shine.
