Lonerism is the second studio album by the Australian rock band Tame Impala, released on 5 October 2012 by Modular Recordings. Like the band's debut studio album, Innerspeaker (2010), Lonerism was written, recorded, performed, and produced by Kevin Parker, with live member Jay Watson contributing on two tracks. Recorded mostly in Perth, Australia, and Paris, France, Lonerism builds on the psychedelic sound of its predecessor by featuring fewer guitars and more synthesisers and samples.

Released October 5, 2012. 1. Be Above It Lyrics. A conceptual, appropriately titled dive into the nuances of introversion, Lonerism is the sophomore studio album from Australian neo-psychedelia band Tame Impala. Commonly known as one of the band’s best efforts, the record was universally acclaimed upon release, garnering a 9/10 from NME for its brilliant exploration of splendid isolation. Lonerism was supported by two singles, the hard-hitting Elephant, and mellifluent Feels Like We Only Go Backwards, both charting in multiple countries

Lonerism is the second album by Australian psychedelic rock band Tame Impala, released by Modular Recordings on 5 October 2012. Like their previous album Innerspeaker, most of the recording was undertaken by Kevin Parker.

Although Tame Impala tours as a band, the group's psychedelic trip-pop is pretty much due to Parker's writing, playing, and even producing. It's definitely a more pop-oriented album than the crunchy Innerspeaker, and it reveals another compelling side to Tame Impala. Check out Watson's other band POND, and its LP Beard, Wives, Denim, for another dose of satisfying psych-rock. Lonerism Tame Impala.

Reviews:
  • Chillhunter
Just like the previous comments, this record sounds very distorted and has a terrible ear piercing sound on the highs. Very unfortunate, I love Tame Impala but the pressing is just terrible.
  • Silver Globol
If anyone has the poster and badges to sell me, please let me know!
  • Wrathmaster
Is it really splattered, or is the splatter effect due to imperfections in the press?
  • Ber
I'd be willing to pay over $100 for both discs if anyone wants to get rid of theirs. PM me
  • Shakar
I was disappointed by this pressing...everything seems super jacked, quiet in some spots / boomy in others. Tell tale parts like end of Keep on Lying has super unbalanced sound with the solo guitar that ducks under the mix. Wtf happened?
  • Kirimath
I just got this pressing and I'm pretty happy with the quality. I have a US pressing of Innerspeaker that sounds awful. Fiction Records are the way to go.

A style guide:general nouns for individual media: record/records; LP/LPsformat: vinyl (no plural)

In a decade where mediocrity is the norm in music and movies, Tame Impala is one of those bands that stands out amongst the rest. Borrowing from 90's Shoegaze bands like Cocteau Twins and Lush combined with a unique psychedelic feel gives this the honorary title of perhaps what was the best album of the 2010's.

Late to this comment party, but I recently bought a used 2-LP vinyl copy. I seriously considered returning the album because it just sounds...off -- like it was recorded in a bucket, to name one thing. There also seems to be a lack of bass response. I'm now listening to the remaster/reissue of Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger at the same volume and stereo settings, and it sounds really good (if a little quiet).I have Innerspeaker on CD, and it sounds great, so this is a bit disappointing. However, it seems like there are a lot of complaints about modern vinyl. Radiohead's A Moon Shaped Pool deluxe edition from last year had quite a few reported problems (my copy was very good, luckily). I got Lonerism for a good price, so I'll hold onto it and maybe find the CD version for comparison.Good music, but I wouldn't feel compelled to own the vinyl over any other format based on what's coming out of my speakers.

Sticker on disc 2 on my copy were flipped - C side is the D side and vice versa (obviously).
  • Damand
My copy of this record is a bit noisy as others have pointed out. But worse than the noise my pressing sounds distorted in a few places. The song Elephant in particular sounds almost like it's going in and out of focus, with certain sections sounding clear and others sounding blown out. Unless the vinyl copy is just very differently (badly) mixed, it seems this is a very poor quality pressing.
  • Umi
Fairly noisy, Elephant in particular sounds terrible. It's extremely distorted and clipping throughout the whole song. The rest sounds fine, despite the noise. It may just be my pressing, but i don't know why this was cleared for release with such a noticeable distortion. Why did it have to be Elephant too :(
  • Ahieones
I got my issue with three discs. The a/b side was sticked together twice. Anyone else got this??
  • Angana
it's so weird they split up the disk one and two for this.
  • MARK BEN FORD
Could someone add the Newbury Comics Autographed booklet releases?I have several.
  • Dancing Lion
Sold this for about €70 two years ago, dang!
  • Fenius
I thought the ltd version of the first LP (Innerspeaker) is 45rpm, and then all other pressings were 33 1/3 rpm?
  • Gela
I have the first album limited to 500 and the reason I think it isn't as valuable is because it is exactly the same as the non limited version except for the barcode. So, unless you are an enthusiast like us or on discogs, you may not even know there is a limited original aussie pressing. I got it for $30 like 5 years ago!
  • Ndav
My copy had the 'A' label (not music) printed on both sides. Anybody else get this?
  • Golkree
This is a review for the USModular Recordings pressing/reissue, which I'm assuming was reissued in 2014, however I don't have any confirmation on this as the reissue just lists the release year (2012) of the album on the back. First record was considerably quiet, tons of smooth and rich dynamics. However, the second record was absolutely noisy, it's almost as if they used the unmastered tracks for the first six tracks of the first record, and the brickwalled, compressed tracks for the second record. The second record is also way too bassy. There's literally digital clipping/audio distortion on the second record which is absolutely horrendous and noticable even at a low volume, the solo for Keep On Lying is unbearable on this pressing. The second record also skips and jumps like crazy even with proper cartridge setup and counterweight/tracking force.3/10, this isn't a very good pressing or reissue. I've heard that the EU pressing is good, try that one out.
  • Pettalo
I don't see how this is special. United pressing has been known to display this level of quality control on many releases. It's sad really and shouldn't be something in demand and valuable.
  • Zuser
A bit noisy, that could just be my copy though.Seems to be noticeable mostly in the quiet sections/between tracks.
  • Ynonno
it's that United Pressing quality.
  • Light out of Fildon
I just got this today. I agree it's pretty noisy. I noticed it a lot of "Why Won't They Talk to Me" and "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards"
  • Rainpick
I cycled my butt off today on my break from work to collect this from the sorting office. I love this album, love KP and love my bro for getting it for me! Peace out!We all know KP is a musical genius, this album is colourful and emotive - sounds delicious on wax!

The pre-order for the LP came in a number of variants, in editions of 100, none of which varied greatly from the others. In the UK there were the Rough Trade & RecordStore.co.uk autographed editions. The Rough Trade edition came with a bonus CD, and RecordStore.co.uk, with 3 badges. Some copies were signed by all band members, and others by just Kevin.Similar editions appeared in the US and Australia. Anyone care to fill in?
  • Rivik
I also ordered mine from recordstore.co.uk and it was only signed by KP. Came with 3 badges too.
  • Gtonydne
I ordered my copy from RecordStore.co.uk and it was only signed by Kevin.
  • Shaktizragore
Shit son, I'd totally buy this if I had the cash monies.
  • Darksinger
Curious about the quality of this pressing. I have both the limited turquoise LP and the original black UK pressing but there is a lot of noise during the inner tracks, especially during the second half of Apocalypse Dreams
