Canada’s engagement in Afghanistan was our country’s most significant military operation in recent years. More than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members would serve in the Afghanistan theatre of operations between 2001 and 2014. It was very dangerous duty and Warrant Officer Robert John Wilson of the 1st Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, was killed on December 5, 2008 along with two fellow soldiers when the vehicle in which they were traveling was hit by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in the Arghandab District. One-hundred years after it was written, Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae's iconic poem 'In Flanders Fields' continues to be a large part of Canada's history and this weekend, it was honoured at a ceremony in Edmonton.

O Canada" (French: Ô Canada) is the national anthem of Canada. The song was originally commissioned by Lieutenant Governor of Quebec Théodore Robitaille for the 1880 Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day ceremony; Calixa Lavallée composed the music, after which, words were written by the poet and judge Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. The original lyrics were in French; an English translation was published in 1906.

LYRICS: O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all thy sons command With glowing hearts we see thee rise The true North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada we stand on guard for thee God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

A collection of essays detailing Canadian government policy towards ethnic groups during the Second World War. The Physical Object.

Redirected from On Guard for Thee). On Guard For Thee was a Canadian documentary television miniseries which aired on CBC Television in 1981. This series concerns the history and status of Canadian national security following World War II, particularly the national security role which the Royal Canadian Mounted Police held until it the formation of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service in 1984.

Canada's policy of multiculturalism is unique in that it is a government sanctioned system essentially for the protection and promotion of the various cultures making up the "Canadian mosaic. Officially then, it appears to advance a national identity based on acceptance, but in practice this is often not the case.
