The great Ella Fitzgrald is heard during four radio broadcasts from Birdland, along with a few selections from the Apollo Theater and Basin Street. One broadcast is a bit odd because Ella was being heckled a bit by a noisy audience that wanted to hear some requests she was not planning on performing. Otherwise the minisets run pretty smooth with Ella (mostly accompanied by the Hank Jones Trio) heard in prime form on such numbers as "Flying Home," "How High the Moon," "Air Mail Special," "Lemon Drop," and a variety of ballads. The only real fault to this.
