My Yellow Wise Rug! I just purchased this album, and when I played it:. Wow, words like euphoria, floating in space, and absolute blissfullness are some of those, very positive ones, that come to mind Reply Notify me 3 Helpful.

On Slater's second album, recorded under the name 7th Plain, he mines darker territory than the true ambient maestros. Although his tempos, when they are present, are relaxed and congenial, "Think City" broods slowly while "Doup" opens up into a funky break for the middle two of its seven minutes. Only "Hectic Bag" even hints at Slater's forthcoming transition into hard techno maverick, with a cavernous kick that plays out a tribal rhythm from deep below. But this is definitely a mellow and somewhat dated affair from an artist who would rise to stronger.

I just listened again to « Hectic Bag » and its subdued dramatic power overwhelmed me even more than when it was first released, it was at the time considered as listening/chillout material but now is the time such tracks be played at peaktime and devastate dancefloors and people’s lives for good, the world is ready, this is truly exceptional.

My Yellow Wise Rug!I just purchased this album, and when I played it: ...Wow, words like euphoria, floating in space, and absolute blissfullness are some of those, very positive ones, that come to mind. This album is so subtle and sublime, that the details of the pieces of the album, reveal themselves one by one in a most amazing way. My experience with the album, is like that of an extremely fascinating book - once you are absorbed into it, you never want to leave - same thing here... My absolute favorite ambient album of the 90s...

I remember (Mixmaster) Morris saying something along the lines of this album was for people who understand.

I have had this album since release and found The 4 Cornered Room to be my favourite but that has changed and I must say that Wise Rug is truly an amazing piece of work. I really recommend this is absorbed with quality headphones. In fact I don't think it's even fair to compare the two albums as they are totally different in terms of production, The 4 Cornered Room nodding to Detroit and My Yellow Wise Rug firmly rooted in IDM and mostly slower. Any way you look at it you have to own both if like me you remember the amazing mid nineties for some of the best IDM made...

Not quite as fantastic as 'The Four Cornered Room' but it does still have a few fantastic tracks which are well worth having. Let's face it, 'Wise Rug' costs half what 4 Cornered Room does. I never managed to make out the face of Luke Slater on the cover or the poster. And thats 2 hours later! So Luke, when are you gonna make the next 7th plain LP? You told me on the platform at London Bridge that you were gonna do some more stuff like that!
