And Arturo Toscanini surely was a master - perhaps the most towering Maestro of the 20th century. Since the Toscanini Collection was first released on compact disc approximately a decade ago, major innovations have occured in sound restoration. Track List CD1: Die Walküre: Walkürenritt Siegfried: Waldweben Götterdämmerung: Morgendämmerung und Siegfrieds Rheinfahrt Siegfrieds Tod und Trauermarsch Siegfried-Idyll Tristan und Isolde: Vorspiel und Liebestod
The NBC Symphony Orchestra was one of the world's fabled orchestras. David Sarnoff, chairman of RCA which owned both RCAVictor Records and NBC radio - offered conductor Arturo Toscanini a specially-built orchestra of the highest standards. Offering the highest salaries of any orchestra and a 52-week contract, NBC attracted top orchestral musicians: 21 of them were former section leaders of other orchestras. Artur Rodzinski molded them into a precision ensemble and Rodzinski led its first concerts. The orchestra took the air under Toscanini on Christmas day, 1937.
Wagner: Lohengrin: Prelude to Act I; Siegfried: Forest Murmurs; Gotterdammerung: Siegfried's Rhine Journey; Tannhauser: Overture and Bacchanale; Die Meistersinger: Prelude to Act I. The NBC Symphony Orchestra, Arturo Toscanini conducting (Carnegie Hall, April 4, 1954). Arkadia CDMP 414. Keeping track of all the great Toscanini CDs out there (mostly of his concerts, rather than the often disappointing studio versions) strains the inventory of most stores and the budgets of most collectors.
