Band Name Catherine Ribeiro plus Alpes. Album Name La Déboussole. 2. Voyage au fond de l'amour. 3. La Grande Déglingue. 4. Ne pas partir ne pas mourir.
Eleventh album of Ribeiro & Alpes, and for this writer, the last one worth a listen (the next albums are non-Alpes album) and gets even closer to standard Chanson Franaise.
In fact, the band is far more funky on this outing, with driving bass hooks on most of the tracks. There are enough peculiar touches to keep it from being so much stale pop fodder, especially with the addition of a violinist adding some old European-style charm. Unfortunately, Ribeiro's voice gets confined or lost in these less free-form arrangements. While the cellos and other drone instruments are long gone, this album's prime singularity is the funky (almost Kobaian) bass that seems to dominate these the short tracks.
Eleventh album of Ribeiro & Alpes, and for this writer, the last one worth a listen (the next albums are non-Alpes album) and gets even closer to standard Chanson Française. Clearly of most interest for progheads in this album is the rework of 72's Paix track, which gets a good modernized revisit part of which is due to the general uplifting of Alpes' line-up. Ribeiro really unleashes in it with some Janis-like squeals, which draw some near orgasmic spine chills. Different but just great as their first version, this will also be Alpes' last piece of bravado. Understandably so, with the music scene changing severely, the shift of power was inevitable towards shorter sung songs and therefore the tongue-in-cheek tile of La Déboussole (the un-compass).
Album · 1979 · 8 Songs. La déboussole Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes.
Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes were a French band formed in 1968. It consisted of singer and composer Catherine Ribeiro and guitarist Patrice Moullet. The other member changed through every record. The two used to be in the band Catherine Ribeiro + 2Bis, but decided to change the name after their first record. While their style was mostly folk and psychedelic rock in their first years, they also included elements of avant-garde into their music.
