Low is the 11th studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on RCA Records on 14 January 1977. Recorded following Bowie's move to West Berlin after a period of drug addiction and personal instability, Low became the first of three collaborations with musician Brian Eno and producer Tony Visconti, later termed the "Berlin Trilogy".

What is the sound quality like? Is this a soundboard recording?
  • Raniconne

How is the sound quality please ? Is it from soundboard or audience recording ?
  • Jogrnd
Audience. Scores about a 7/10 as far as audience boots go.

My version is on yellow vinyl - seem to be a lot of colours available
  • Marelyne
My version is on green vinyl

Saw this at a record fair and was tempted but with boots youre taking a chance.Whats the consensus on this?

It is a fairly good boot overall in terms of quality, but there is a fair bit of crackle on my copy on side A but I think this is due to the quiet recording, the sound quality is good for an 'unofficial' release, but it is quiet so you get a lot of crackle. Was mint, sealed at 16 euro too, so a fair price. It isn't like soundboard but it's very good clarity, apart from the volume issue. See BowieStation.

I am halfway. There is no way it is from a soundboard but it does sound a lot better than most boots. A little muffled but if this is the only version that exists than soi be it. I have it and it is listenable. There is that crackle at the end of side 2 which IS on all of the versions I've heard I'm afraid. If you can get it for cheap go for it

Also, as a professional musician, I can tell you that this is NOT soundboard quality. Some dude with a cassette recorder, most probably.

DO NOT be fooled. These bootleg pressings are absolutely TERRIBLE. The recording quality is awful and the pressing quality is like this guy snuck into a pressing plant at 3am and pressed a few hundred copies all while drinking beer and dropping Doritos crumbs in the presser. This same 'company' has been pressing this Low Live, Low and Heroes albums lately and I can tell you from first hand experience...they ALL suck. So save yourself the heartache and $$$. On the plus side, the actual live performance is EXCELLENT but I wouldn't waste my money.

The first thing you notice about 'Low Live' is that the sound is quite muffled and a bit bass heavy. It could really do with more presence/treble.Aside from the sound, the show doesn't really sound all that special, certainly not as good as the recordings on Stage, so it sort of plods along until 'Sound And Vision'. Something happens and suddenly, Bowie has hit his stride and sounds absolutely superb! Then the album takes a down turn with 'Always Crashing', onwards. There's really bad crackling throughout the remaining tracks which is a pressing or source fault and is present on the blue edition of this disc, so it's not just the orange vinyl pressing that suffers. The vibe also falls again to that sort of plodding, going through the motions type thing and the mix on Be My Wife is terrible, the piano is buried way down in the mix for some reason. 'New Career' gives a feeling of self indulgence on Bowies part, he's playing it because it's there and he has to, not because it's anything special. It just doesn't sound lively or vibrant, BUT........the instrumental sections with the piano and guitar are top notch and sound and feel fantastic!! Really, really good.Side two begins with Warzsawa but is cut short because of a power failure. Bowie jokes about how it wouldn't have happened in the 70s because they used wooden amps, and wonders if other people hate electricity too. Then the song starts again and it's majestic!! Great version, and the vocals that are shared with Bowie, are GREAT!! Brilliant, tribal, African feeling and sound to their vocals! The rest of the instrumentals are middling, neither great nor poor, just sort of average and certainly not as vibrant as the live versions from 1978.A strange thing about this album is that the mood changes are more pronounced than they are on Low. Maybe the songs are being played heavy handedly and lack the subtlety of Low, but it's quite striking.Mist Media 2014.

As the person who 1st posted this on Discogs and for what my opinion is worth, I can assure you that it's both genuine and the sound is great. Sounds like a sound board recording to me.
