Ruth Wallis Born January 5, 1920 (1920-01-05) Brooklyn, New York, USA Died December 22, 2007, Killingly, Connecticut, United States was a cabaret singer of the 1940s, '50s and '60s who was known as the Queen of the Party Song for the genteelly risqué. Ruth Wallis was called "the high priestess of the double entendre" and "Queen of the wicked ditties. The first novelty record by the quintessential singer of risqué songs was released in 1948, and she continued to release 45s and 78s under her own name

Ruth Wallis (5 January 1920 – 22 December 2007) was a novelty cabaret singer. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Wallis began her career singing jazz and cabaret standards, but gained fame in the 1940s and 1950s for her risqué, satirical songs, rife with double entendre that she wrote herself. She did have a mainstream hit with "Dear Mr. Godfrey," a song about his public firing of Julius La Rosa.

Ruth Wallis (January 5, 1920 – December 22, 2007) was a novelty popular cabaret singer. Born Ruth Shirley Wohl in Brooklyn, New York, Wallis began her career singing jazz and cabaret standards – with such bands as Isham Jones and Benny Goodman on road tours for a couple of months; but gained fame in the 1940s and 1950s for her risqué, satirical songs, rife with double entendres that she wrote herself

Such is the stuff of Ruth Wallis' prematurely enlightened female bravado. Only ten songs on this party line, but a little Wallis seems to go a long way while still leaving one hungry for more. In addition to her usual subjects of sex, money, and marriage, she addresses many other aspects of Americana (in "The American Plan" and others). Russia, Bermuda, Latin America, and the Orient also are represented.
