Lyrics: Carve my eyes out and clean me of my sins This is the place where evil dies and torture begins I've seen it all and I don't mess with my fate I've lost everything but I still got my hate. What if this is what you call hell And what if I'm doomed to live forever Nothing can save me Nobody can break me I've already perished Behind my hollow eyes Behind my hollow eyes Behind my hollow eyes. Lyrics to "Anthem For Doomed Youth" song by The Libertines: Here's a story about the rules of death and glory To be learned by heart by all children of men It's. you a liar Where are all the old dreams now? The batallion, once so proud Lost in some old song and hanging on the old barbedwire. Life could be so handsome It's so good to be okay We're going nowhere But nowhere, nowhere's on our way. Nowhere in the institutions Did they teach that revolution Was something that could ever come to pass Oh we tried one, once before Was the king's head on the floor And we got booted out the boozer Cause someone smashed the glass.

An entire song on Anthems for Doomed Youth, Heart of the Matter, is devoted to the improbability of their current situation. With all the battering it’s taken, I’m surprised it’s still ticking, runs the chorus; whether the it is the Libertines or Doherty’s cardiovascular system is unclear, but given the song’s excoriating portrayal of the singer in his junkie years – apparently now ended – it’s probably the latter. The words of Heart of the Matter point to one reason why Anthems for Doomed Youth is a better album than anyone might reasonably expect. It’s a great bit of songwriting sleight of hand: there was nothing romantic whatsoever about Wass’ death in April – he was a chronic alcoholic killed by a £15 heroin deal – but the loveliness of the melody and the potency of Doherty’s delivery could make you believe there was, at least for the song’s duration.

Anthem For Doomed Youth. Produced by Jake Gosling. Album Anthems for Doomed Youth. Anthem For Doomed Youth Lyrics. Here's a story about the rules of death or glory To be learned by heart by all children of men It's the hour of the morning on the day after the dawning When the sun they said would never set finally set again Was it Cromwell or Orwell who first led you to the stairwell Which leads only forever. The batallions, once so proud Lost in some old song and hanging on the old barbedwire. Life could be so handsome It's all gonna be okay We're going nowhere But nowhere, nowhere's on our way.
