Albert Mangelsdorff (September 5, 1928 – July 25, 2005) was a German jazz trombonist. Working mainly in free jazz, he was recognized as an innovator who became famous for his use of multiphonics. Mangelsdorff was born in Frankfurt. He was given violin lessons as a child and was self-taught on guitar in addition to knowing trombone. His brother, alto saxophonist Emil Mangelsdorff, introduced him to jazz during the Nazi period (a time when it was forbidden in Germany).

Albert Mangelsdorff rates among the top trombone players in the world. Mangelsdorff's solo recordings are remarkable for their use of multiphonics - the creation of a buzzing, chord-like sound by playing one note and singing another into the mouthpiece - and for logical, clear-headed improvisations.
