A relatively early recording of Ravi Shankar for . markets, this album has the master performing a couple of ragas on the sitar, along with a couple of more folk-style songs. To complement this (and demonstrate the virtuosity of the tabla player), there is also a length tabla solo in jhaptal included. At the time of the original release of this album, this must have certainly been a revolutionary sound, heard by most westerners only through the experimentation of the Beatles (George Harrison was a close friend of Shankar's) and the Stones.

Shankar was born to a Bengali family in Benares, British India, and spent his youth touring India and Europe with the dance group of his brother Uday Shankar.
