The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. Part One ‎(LP, Album). Reprise Records, Reprise Records. Was there ever a band in your life whom you thought was very good, yet never seemed to be able to connect with? Hence my feelings for the very psychedelic West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, with the album jacket for Part One, a head-grabber, even if one wasn’t familiar with the music held within. It would be easy to claim that the band materialized from some freaky outback, filling this album with weirdness and even a sense of paranoia and schizophrenia that I’m sure led to my disconnect with the outfit.

The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band (WCPAEB) was an American psychedelic rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1965. The group created music that possessed an eerie, and at times sinister atmosphere, and contained material that was bluntly political, childlike, and bizarre.

Volume One is the first album recorded by the psychedelic rock band the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. It was first released in 1966 on the small FiFo Records label. It was reissued in both compact disc and vinyl in 1997 by Sundazed. The album features covers of pop classics such as Richard Berry's "Louie, Louie" and the Kinks' "You Really Got Me". The songs mellow out into a blues/folk style with covers of Bob Dylan songs.

The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band's first album for Reprise was the best of the group's career, in large part because it was the most song-oriented. It was still plenty weird, almost to the point of stylistic schizophrenia, but when you got down to it, much of the record was comprised of fairly catchy songs in the neighborhood of two and three minutes. At times they sounded like reasonably normal, fairly talented Byrds-like folk-rockers ("Transparent Day," .
