Stackridge is the 1971 debut album by the English group Stackridge. It was one of the first releases on the MCA Records label in the . It first appeared on CD in 1997, released by Demon Records in the . In 2006 it was re-issued again by Angel Air. The Stackridge style is rather hard to categorize.
The debut album from Stackridge consists of nine curiously light folk-tinged tracks, with elements of progressive rock cropping up here and there in the friendly Canterbury style. Their music takes on the classic storytelling route, but is bolstered and heightened by instruments like violins, flutes, cellos, trumpets, and the distinct sound of the harmonium played by Andrew Creswell-Davis.
Stackridge is the 1971 debut album by the English group Stackridge. Dora the Female Explorer was the only single released from the album. Lyricists Andy Cresswell-Davis and James Warren had hoped to adapt six of the album’s songs into a cartoon-book for children, but the project was never completed.

Overall, another fine album in the Stackridge discography. Being honest, there is little if any genuine prog here, but this is more than compensated for by the strong melodies and tight performances throughout. Since the release of this album, vocalist Mutter Slater has once again left the band (amicably). Year 2009, band's so far latest, for me the best one. I've met many new friends here (wonderful people, thank you, you know who), get to know extremely great music (most of what I've been listening before can't be counted as good, except minority (49%) of good things).
