Crystal Ball is the sixth album by Styx, released in 1976. This album marked the recording debut of new guitarist Tommy Shaw. The album sold 300,000 copies when it was first released, Although Crystal Ball peaked no. 66 on the charts, shortly before the release of The Grand Illusion (1977) and received Gold. The opening track "Put Me On" is about a guy who bought and is listening to a vinyl record.

Shaw was the linchpin to the breadth of Styx’s success. The follow-up to Crystal Ball, the (lucky?) 1977 seventh Styx album became a multi-platinum tour-de-force with mega-smash-hit songs and radio-friendly album cuts.

Equinox, Crystal Ball Remastered BGO 2015. But we are talking about Crystal Ball, the first artistically solid album with economic success; after many years, STYX had ceased to be a local phenomenon of Chicago and gave the step to become icons of USA Rock. The album starts with "Put Me On" and it's pompous into, where guitar and keyboards blend to create one of the most memorable songs in STYX's career.

Crystal Ball (Styx album). Studio album by Styx. The album's title track would become a concert staple for the band, as it was performed on every subsequent Styx tour with which Shaw was involved. Shooz" was co-written by Shaw and James ". The bluesy rocker had Shaw on slide guitar while Young contributed a Hendrix-like solo to the middle of the track after Shaw's slide solo. This Old Man" is a song that DeYoung wrote for his father and the impact his dad had on his life. Claude Debussy's classical piece "Clair de Lune" served as the intro to the album's closing track,.

Crystal Ball wasn't as successful as Equinox, but it was a better album, showcasing Styx's increased skill for crafting simple, catchy pop hooks out of their bombastic sound.

I used to like to walk the straight and narrow line I used to think that everything was fine Sometimes I'd like to sit and gaze for days through sleepless dreams All alone and trapped in time All alone and trapped in time. I wonder what tomorrow has in mind for me Or am I even in it's mind at all Perhaps I'll get a chance to look ahead and see Soon as I find myself a crystal ball Soon as I find myself a crystal ball
